The Effect of a Training Package on Self-Efficacy and Mental Health of Female High School Students regarding the Healthy Human Theory

Abstract

 

Introduction: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of educational package of healthy human theory on self-efficacy and mental health of female high school students in Fooladshahr.

Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental and included a pretest, posttest and a one-month follow-up. The statistical population included all the female high school students (1,200 students) in Fooladshahr in the academic year 2020-2021. Convenience sampling method was used ,and a secondary school in Fooladshahr was selected. Then, mental health screening and self-efficacy questionnaires were distributed among the students. In the second stage, 30 students were selected from those who had lower mental health and self-efficacy and were willing to participate in the study. They were randomly assigned to  experimental (n = 15) and control (n = 15) groups. The experimental group received thirteen sessions of a revised version of training based on the healthy human theory (Aghaei, Asadi, 2021). The control group remained on the waiting list. Data collection tools in the pretest, posttest and follow-up stages included the Morris Children and Adolescents Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (2001) and the Keys Mental Health Scale (2002). In order analyze data, the analysis of variance with repeated measures was used.

Results:  The results showed that the training package regarding the healthy human theory had a significant effect on improving self-efficacy and mental health of students in the posttest stage (p <0.001). The effect continued to the follow-up stage (p <0.001).

Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, it can be said that the training package regarding the healthy human theory has been a suitable method for improving self-efficacy and mental health of female students from senior high school.
