Abstract

Introduction: : Nowadays, the use of artificial intelligence in the field of medical education has increased. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the status of students' knowledge and attitudes towards artificial intelligence and its relationship with academic achievement at Birjand University of Medical Sciences.

Method: The type of the present study is descriptive-analytical, which was conducted on students at Birjand University of Medical Sciences. The sample size was 410 students and the sampling method was convenience sampling. A researcher-made questionnaire on the status of students' knowledge and attitudes towards artificial intelligence was used to collect information. Chi-square, independent T-test, Pearson correlation, and analysis of variance at a significance level of 0.05 were used to analyze the data.

Results: In this study, the average age and GPA of students were 22.19 ± 2.55 and 16.34 ± 1.42, respectively. The average score of students towards artificial intelligence was 16.78 ± 2.68, and the average score of students towards artificial intelligence was 38.62 ± 5.14. The results also showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude of students towards artificial intelligence and academic achievement (P < 0.05), but there was no significant difference between the level of knowledge and attitude of students towards artificial intelligence based on gender and age (P < 0.05).

Conclusion: Given that artificial intelligence technology is considered one of the elements in teaching by professors and learning by students, it is necessary to revise the curriculum of students in the fields of the Ministry of Health so that the concepts of artificial intelligence in medicine are well understood and taught.
