Identifying the factors affecting missed nursing care is of great importance. Nurses require a high level of spirituality as a resource to perform their duties more effectively and provide high-quality care. Accordingly, the present study aimed to determine the association between factors related to missed nursing care and spiritual orientation among nurses at Valiasr Hospital in Borujen, Iran. This descriptive-analytical study was conducted from September 2023 to February 2024 at Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences. A total of 182 nurses from Valiasr Hospital in Borujen were selected through convenience sampling and included in the study. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, the questionnaire on factors related to missed nursing care developed by Blackman et al., and Robert Collings’ Spiritual Orientation Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS statistical software (version 16), descriptive tests (mean and standard deviation, percentage, and frequency), and analytical tests (independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and linear regression). The Pearson correlation coefficient test showed a statistically significant negative correlation between the mean scores of the dimensions of missed nursing care and spiritual orientation among nurses (r = −0.45). The coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.202) indicated that approximately 20% of missed nursing care could be predicted by spiritual orientation (P = 0.02). The mean score of missed nursing care among the nurses was moderate, at 48.39 ± 5.34. The mean score for spiritual orientation among the nurses was favorable, at 80.8 ± 05.13. Attention to spirituality is an influential dimension in nurses’ circumstances. Organizing workshops and meetings that emphasize spiritual orientation, as well as continuing education and in-service training programs focused on the role of spirituality in patient care, may be helpful.
